Rated 5 out of 5 by Most don't understand oil ratings No I don't work for Mobil or its affiliates, I was simply exhausted with scanning through the marketing materials presented by the majority of engine oil manufacturing. Therefore I learned what all those specifics mean related to engine lubricants mean and whittled them down to this one very simple equation: Pick the synthetic lubricant which has the lowest possible thickness at cold temperature rating (40 deg C) while also being able to maintain at least 10cSt thickness at operating temperature (100 deg C). Mobil 1 0W-40 was able to achieve all three of these requirements 1) Synthetic lubricant (uniform molecules which have been purified 2) Viscosity - Thickness at 40 deg C = 70.8 cSt 3) Viscosity - Thickness at 100 deg C = 12.9 cSt Therefore I was able to choose one single lubricant for all my passenger vehicles, which is available locally without special order. Those looking for a go-to standard engine oil would find Mobil 1, 0W-40 one of the best alternatives for meeting this requirement. I will modify this response, once I am able to perform lubricant analysis at my next oil change May 15, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good oil but I have used non-FS Mobil 1 0w-40 before in a 2005 BMW 330ci, but this newer FS oil does not mention BMW approved, so why is that? May 2, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by New formula does not meet specifications. This has been the only oil I have used in my BMW's for years. Now, there is a new formulation out that does not currently meet the BMW LL-01 specification. Is this going to be addressed? Soon? BTW, what does 'FS' stand for? I (and many others..) have stood by this oil for years. I have nothing but good things to say about this oil but if it will not meet BMW specifications then I will be forced to switch oils. I truly hope that I don't have to do this. May 1, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by great engine longivity Been using Mobil 1 5W-30 in my 2000 Pontiac Montana, which I bought new, since about 30,000 miles and noticed the brown staining from conventional oil at the filler area. The car now has 340,000 and I still use the regular Mobil 1, not the high mileage, and still do not have to add any oil between changes at about 7,500 miles. I do the changes when the Pontiac oil change reminder comes on. When I change the oil, I look in the filler port and the engine is still clean and no sludge can be seen. Engine has never been apart except for the 3.4l intake manifold gasket failure, common on this engine I am highly satisfied with Mobil 1 and use it on my '84 Buick Riviera Convertable and '09 Chevy Avalanche May 16, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by I use Mobil 1......Period....And Here's Why... I've had my 1998 Ford F150 with a 4.6L SOHC V-8 since new. I run only Mobil 1 5w30. Drove it 266,000 miles until it blew a head gasket. Where we tore it apart - absolutely NO WEAR - ZERO. Clean inside and no wear. Cylinder walls still had a crosshatch pattern. Crank and cam journals were void of wear and we went back with standard sized bearings. I can provide images of this engine when it was torn down. Mobil 1 for life.....FOR LIFE. Engine is now rebuilt and ready to go back in my truck. Had I taken better care of my cooling system it would never have blown the head gasket. It would have gone way beyond 300,000 miles WITHOUT A REBUILD on Mobil 1. May 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect for my Honda Odyssey I actually use a 0w-20 weight for my Honda Odysssey but didn't see that option listed to review. I get this by the 5 qt jug (in 0W-20) at WalMart for $23.00. That and a Honda oil filter run me about $30.00 for an oil change. Honda 0w-20 oil runs me $50.00 to do a "do it myself" oil change. No brainer for me. Additionally, my Honda service technician told me that Mobil1 is "great stuff'' and is a good alternative to the Honda branded 0W-20. Hmm, $30.00 with Mobil 1 or $50.00 with Honda branded oil?? I will pocket that saved $20.00 and put towards my next oil change. May 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by First time Mobil 1 user I recently changed to Mobil 1 from another synthetic oil in my 1987 Monte Carlo SS. It's got 69,000 original miles, very low for a 29 year old car. What I noticed right away was better oil pressure than I've had before. Not that it was bad, but it is increased. The car means a lot to me, & it's important for me to protect an old engine, even if it has relatively low miles. Seeing increased oil pressure is like a security blanket for me. I will stay with Mobil 1. May 12, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Low oil pressure in my Corvette. My 2007 Corvette with 60,000 miles maintains 28 psi at 70 mph 1750 rpm, oil temperature of 220 degrees. This hasn't changed since I've owned it for two years, considering changing to a higher weight or different oil manufacturer. Cold oil pressure can climb to 80 psi, when hot pressure falls off rapidly. Mobile 1 suggested to keep using 5-30, or maybe 0-30, but not 0-40. Why? I feel my oil concerns are due to thermal breakdown. The only way to increase oil pressure when hot is to use a higher weight oil, or a better grade oil that resist the effects of heat. Just my 2 cents worth... March 3, 2016
